The ONU receives permission to access the abandoned oil tanker off Yemen

The final authorization comes after weeks of discussions about the activities to be carried out by the team of experts that will be in charge of inspecting the ship and carrying out the first maintenance tasks. The United Nations has long been warning that the ship, which has more than a million barrels of crude on board, could cause a major environmental disaster if not acted upon. The ONU had previously received a more general authorization from the Houthi rebels, but so far the technical details needed to proceed had not been finalized.
