Virtual training to empower women in the port sector

To encourage this trend an with a view to following the momentum given to women´s empowerment in the maritime community, the IMO is supporting a virtual training course aimend at female and port authorities.

For 12 sessions (22 hours), participants were provided with key information and updates on port industry innovations. The topics covered were global trends and advances in port development, management and operations; port security and efficiency at container terminals; and international law relating to ports and ships. This program had to be adapted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Finally, the event was held through the IMO Gender and Capacity Building Programme in collaboration with GIMI. It is part of the IMO´s continued efforts to support Un Sustainable Development Goal 5, achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. These capacity-building  initiatives continue through virtual training.
