The IMO technical body, the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC), has recognized a set of protocols to ensure the safety of changes and travel of ship crew members during the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).
The Committee has met virtually for its 102nd session held from 4 to 11 November, approving a circular recognizing the protocols developed by the sector, which lay down general measures and rules to ensure that changes in ship crew and travel can be carried out safely during the pandemic.
The IMO Pollution Prevention and Response Subcommittee meets the week of March 22-26 in remote session.
The COVID-19 pandemic has created important challenges in terms of coordinating work on safety and security within the Central and West African common maritime space. To address this, IMO helped set up a new video conferencing service for the Interregional Coordination Centre (ICC) in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
